Boss #3: Fire Lord

The Fire Lord is the third major boss of the game and is found in one of the Chambers of the Flame (map area 54). Like the Dwarven King, he has no official name, but I dubbed him Fire Lord because he is found in a Chamber of the Flame, is on fire, has immunity to fire-based attacks (including Dragon Grasp and his own fireballs but not including swords, Magic Bombs, Magic Bolts, and armor with the Fire Trinket equipped) and has only fire-based attacks. I strongly reccomend having any type of armor with the Shadow Trinket equipped for this battle.

This battle is broken up into 2 parts which are very similar, yet slightly different. For the first part, the stage looks like this:

If yotry to fight, you will soon run into a problem, and the problem is how to actually affect the Fire Lord. He stays too high to hit with your Magic Bolt or Sword, and can rain fireballs on you from above. Even if you deflect the fireballs back at the Fire Lord, which is only possible with the Mageblade, he is immune to fire-based attacks, including his own fireballs. You must use your new spell, Dragon Grasp (also called Grapple), to fight this enemy. If you are close enough to the Fire Lord when you use Dragon Grasp, it will automatically aim itself at the Fire Lord. As Dragon Grasp is a fire-based attack it will deal no damage, but will pull the Fire Lord toward you. He will immediately start to rise toward the top of the screen, so you have a small window of time to jump up and slash and hack at the Fire Lord before he is out of range. Use Dragon Grasp again, and repeat the process again and again. If you run low on magical energy, remember that some of the Fire Lord's fireballs will turn into blue circles that restore your magical energy.

Once the Fire Lord has lost about half of his life the stage will change.

There are now two more lava pools, so watch out! The stage is now too cluttered to efectively use the strategy you used during the first part of the battle. Also, half-molten balls of rock will roll onto the stage. These, unlike the Fire Lord's fireballs, can be deflected with any sword into a lava pool. The easiest way to hurt the Fire Lord is to double jump onto one of the two moving platforms and from there jumping and slashing at the Fire Lord. When the Fire Lord is defeated, you can go to the right to claim the third part of the Mageblade: the crosspiece. Now you can sit back and wonder how you survived so long in a magma chamber without dying of heatstroke or dehydration as you go from the hottest place in the Swordigo world to the coldest.
